1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using FileScope ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.

2. License

2.1 Grant

Upon purchase, you are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual license to use FileScope on up to 3 personal devices owned by you.

2.2 Lifetime Access

A "Lifetime" license means you receive all future updates for the current major version of FileScope at no additional cost. Major version upgrades (e.g., v1 to v2) may require a separate purchase at a discounted rate.

2.3 Restrictions

You may not:

• Redistribute, resell, or sublicense the Software.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software beyond what is permitted by applicable law.
• Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels on the Software.
• Use the Software to develop a competing product.

3. Payment and Refunds

3.1 Payment

All payments are processed securely through Dodo Payments. Prices are listed in USD and are inclusive of applicable taxes unless otherwise stated.

4. Software Description

FileScope is a Windows desktop application that:

• Indexes files on your local machine (PDFs, DOCX, XLSX, images, text files).
• Provides full-text search, semantic (AI-powered) search, and filename search.
• Performs OCR on images and screenshots using Windows built-in capabilities.
• Runs entirely offline. No cloud processing, no accounts required.

5. System Requirements

• Windows 10 or Windows 11
• Minimum 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended)
• 200 MB disk space for installation, plus space for the search index

6. Data and Privacy

FileScope processes all data locally. We do not access, collect, or transmit your files or search queries. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

7. Intellectual Property

FileScope, its name, logo, and all associated materials are the intellectual property of FileScope. Your purchase grants a license to use the Software, not ownership of the Software itself.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

FileScope is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that:

• The Software will meet all your requirements.
• The Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
• All file formats will be indexed correctly in every case.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FileScope and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profits, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Software.

Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Software.

10. Updates

FileScope may automatically check for updates via GitHub Releases. Updates are optional but recommended. We reserve the right to modify features in future updates while maintaining core functionality.

11. Termination

Your license is perpetual unless terminated. We may terminate your license if you violate these terms. Upon termination, you must uninstall and destroy all copies of the Software.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page. Continued use of FileScope after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation before pursuing legal remedies.
